Focused Ultrasound Drug Delivery Clinical Trial Published
The first clinical trial demonstrating local drug delivery using focused ultrasound and temperature sensitive liposomes was performed in Oxford and published in Lancet Oncology in 2018.
The study demonstrated that a combined treatment using temperature-sensitive liposomes loaded with the chemotherapy drug doxorubicin and noninvasive focused ultrasound hyperthermia was clinically feasible, safe, and able to enhance intratumoural drug delivery. The results indicated that this method could provide targeted chemo-ablative response in human liver tumors that were refractory to standard chemotherapy.
