The Foundation has launched a new fellowship initiative to help postdoctoral researchers transition into faculty positions. The initiative, called the Postdoctoral Fellowship in Focused Ultrasound, will award $30,000 per year to two postdoctoral researchers employed at institutions around the world.

This Fellowship experience is designed to foster collaboration between the Foundation, the Fellows’ home institution, and other relevant institutions. Each Fellow will design and propose a focused ultrasound research project.

Technical, preclinical, and clinical researchers who have obtained a PhD no more than five years ago are eligible to apply. The applicant should also be a candidate for a faculty position with an emphasis on preclinical and/or clinical research in focused ultrasound.

“The Foundation is dedicated to cultivating the next generation of focused ultrasound clinicians and scientists,” said Foundation Chairman Neal F. Kassell, MD. “This initiative will help foster innovative ideas among young researchers and help galvanize a career path in this growing field.”

To apply, the laboratory head and the postdoctoral researcher should submit a joint proposal – not to exceed two pages – providing details related to the research project. The laboratory head should also provide information about the availability of additional funds for the researcher.

The Foundation, with the help of an external advisory committee, will review the applications on a case-by-case basis. If granted, the funds will be made available to the host institute, and the researcher will be employed by the host institute. No funds will be provided for bench fees or the institution’s overhead.

All questions and applications should be directed to Chrit Moonen, PhD, the Foundation’s scientific programs director.
