Foundation Chairman Neal F. Kassell, MD, was joined at the Lake Nona Impact Forum earlier this month by Board member and author John Grisham and a patient who had been treated for essential tremor with focused ultrasound.

The group participated in a special session moderated by Juju Chang, the Emmy Award-winning co-anchor of ABC News’ “Nightline.” The conversation highlighted the revolutionary focused ultrasound technology and how it could transform the treatment of a wide variety of serious medical disorders and improve the lives of millions of patients around the world.

The patient, Beverly, shared how focused ultrasound alleviated her tremors and changed her life.

John Grisham also discussed his involvement with the Foundation and his short book, The Tumor, which he wrote to increase awareness of focused ultrasound among all the stakeholders.

The Lake Nona Impact Forum is a three-day event that takes place in Lake Nona Medical City in Orlando, FL, a 17-square-mile life sciences and healthcare community featuring some of the nation’s top universities, hospitals, and research institutions.

The 2024 meeting focused on artificial intelligence, quantum computing, climate change, health equity, brain health, mental health, and disruptive technologies. Notable speakers included Jeff Bezos, Renée Fleming, Deepak Chopra, Sanjay Gupta, Gayle King, Shaun White, and Focused Ultrasound Foundation Council members Jane Metcalfe, Dean Kamen, and Mary Lou Jepsen.
