This month, the Focused Ultrasound Foundation participated in CES® 2018 in Las Vegas, Nevada, to raise awareness of focused ultrasound technology among an unprecedented worldwide audience of tens of thousands of fellow global innovators, technology-minded consumers, and journalists.
Known as the “Global Stage for Innovation,” CES featured more than 3,900 exhibitors and hosted 7,000 media and at least 170,000 industry professionals, consumers, and other influencers. It is produced annually by the Consumer Technology Association (CTA).
“I think [focused ultrasound] is as significant as anything I have ever seen in my lifetime in terms of changing human pain and suffering, and healing people,” said CTA CEO Gary Shapiro. Gary also recognized focused ultrasound during his keynote address and speech at the Leaders in Technology dinner.
Foundation Board member and best-selling author John Grisham and Foundation Chairman Neal F. Kassell, MD – joined by Foundation staff – participated in a wide variety of strategic outreach activities including the Unveiled media event and a Gary’s Book Club interview (video). Kassell also participated on a panel focusing on organizations using technology to better the world with LG Electronics USA Vice President John Taylor and Zero Mass Water Founder and CEO Cody Friesen.
The Foundation also exhibited at two booths in prominent, high-traffic locations on the convention floor and featured educational videos and handouts. Four companies helped make the technology real to CES attendees. Insightec’s 3-D model of their Exablate Neuro system illustrated how focused ultrasound is used in the brain. Foundation staff provided live ablation demonstrations with Theraclion’s Echopulse clinical system using tissue-mimicking phantoms provided by ONDA (pictured). At our other booth, Verasonics’ preclinical device demonstrated focused ultrasound’s effects in water. Thank you to these partners in helping raise awareness of focused ultrasound.
“There has been no better platform for the Foundation to raise awareness among a new, tech-minded audience about the benefits of focused ultrasound technology,” said Kassell. “We want to thank Gary Shapiro and the CTA team for this exceptional opportunity. I have no doubt that our presence at CES – which enabled us to reach literally tens of thousands of people, if not millions – is already helping to speed the time to widespread adoption of focused ultrasound.”
A number of media requested interviews with Kassell and Grisham at the meeting.
