Report Finds Few Cancer Patients in the UK Offered Noninvasive Therapies
- An All-Party Parliamentary Group report found that only 10 percent of cancer patients in the UK are offered noninvasive treatments.
- Its recommendations included training sufficient medical personnel to perform noninvasive therapies, such as focused ultrasound.
- The group brings together different political parties to drive awareness of minimally invasive treatments.

Meeting Report: Society of Interventional Radiology (SIR) 2022
- SIR held its annual meeting in Boston from June 11–16.
- There were seven scientific presentations on focused ultrasound, and two manufacturers in the field participated.

Biomedical Technology Prize to Recognize Innovators Impacting Health
- The Richard N. Merkin Prize in Biomedical Technology will recognize scientists who have developed technologies that substantially impact human health.
- Up to four awards of at least $400,000 will be given annually.
- Dr. Merkin has advanced biomedical research that improves lives and is a longtime Foundation supporter.

Submit an Abstract for ISBUS 2022
- The inaugural International Symposium on Biomolecular Ultrasound and Sonogenetics (ISBUS) will be held December 8-11 in Pasadena, California.
- The meeting will cover biomolecular and genetic approaches to ultrasonic imaging and control of cellular function.
- The abstract submission deadline is September 5.

Insightec to Begin Comparative Prostate Cancer Trial
- Insightec has received FDA clearance to begin a clinical trial comparing its focused ultrasound device to active surveillance in patients with prostate cancer.
- The Exablate Prostate system uses focused ultrasound to ablate target tissue under MRI guidance.
- An earlier clinical trial using the device showed positive results with minimal complications.
