Foundation Conducts Landscape Analysis of Focused Ultrasound Immuno-Oncology

The focused ultrasound immuno-oncology (FUS-IO) field has grown rapidly in the past decade.
The Foundation team compiled a library of FUS-IO references and assessed where the field stands with respect to six key questions.
The team found that many variables should be considered when predicting treatment response and choosing optimal treatment regimen.

Focused Ultrasound for Epilepsy: Early Pilot Results Published

One-year follow-up results from the first two participants treated in an epilepsy clinical trial have now been published.
Unilateral anterior nucleus thalamus ablation was feasible and significantly reduced or stopped focal seizures.
No serious adverse events were reported, but side effects included memory loss.

Focused Ultrasound Versus Microwave Ablation for Liver Metastases

Researchers conducted a study to compare high-intensity focused ultrasound with microwave ablation for the treatment of small metastatic liver tumors.
The results indicated HIFU was safe and feasible and associated with lower hospitalization costs.

Focused Ultrasound Intellectual Property Update: First Quarter 2023

The Foundation tracks recently issued patents and patent applications filed with the US Patent Office related to the field.
Five new US patents related to focused ultrasound were issued in the first quarter of 2023.
