
The scholar is expected to propose and design his or her own original research project in focused ultrasound. Taking approximately 12 months to perform, this research is expected to be publishable and presented at an appropriate scientific meeting in addition to the Foundation’s biennial Symposium. Additionally, the scholar will participate in ongoing focused ultrasound research projects with teams at the University of Virginia and other institutions and give guest lectures as appropriate.
The Merkin scholar will benefit from the Foundation’s wide expertise in focused ultrasound. He or she will have the opportunity to seek out and work closely with other investigators and clinicians throughout the Foundation’s network of research sites to stimulate the development of new translational, preclinical, and clinical research projects.
Previous Merkin scholars include Jean-Francois Aubry (Institut Langevin), Dong-guk Paeng (Jeju National University), Cyril Lafon (LabTAU), Francesco Prada (Istituto Neurologico Carlo Besta), and Frédéric Padilla (LabTAU), all of whom have continued collaborating with the Foundation.
Position Requirements
Eligible candidates must be mid-career, with a minimum of 10 years’ experience. He or she should be a senior scientist or clinician from industry or academia around the world.
Compensation
The position’s salary is approximately $100,000 USD. An additional annualized stipend of approximately $150,000 is provided to cover health benefits for the scholar and dependents and relocation expenses.
