The story explores the need for philanthropic giving to support medical innovation and how our Foundation is helping to advance focused ultrasound to improve the lives of Virginians and others with serious diseases around the world.
Written by senior editor Bob Burke, the article features imonials from visionary donors, researchers and patients who have benefitted from the technology. One patient, Mark Nemschoff, traveled from the U.S. to Switzerland for focused ultrasound treatment of his essential tremor—“It’s something that’s so unbelievable. You can’t say enough good things about it.”He later encouraged his sister who underwent treatment at the same Swiss clinic. Thanks to the Foundation’s research support, this treatment is currently available in Europe, and we hope that it will be approved in the U.S. in 2016.
