Focused Ultrasound Now FDA Approved to Treat Essential Tremor Patients’ Second Side
  • Patients with essential tremor (ET) can now have their second side treated with focused ultrasound.
  • ET commonly affects both sides of the body, and to date, focused ultrasound was only approved for unilateral treatments.
  • The ruling was based on data that showed a significant reduction in tremor following treatment of the second side.

Reimbursement News: Focused Ultrasound for Essential Tremor Now Covered by Anthem
  • Anthem will now cover focused ultrasound for treating medication-refractory essential tremor (ET).
  • This ruling means approximately 36 million additional people in the US will have access to focused ultrasound for ET.
  • Aetna and Blue Cross Blue Shield have already granted positive coverage decisions, and the treatment is covered by Medicare nationwide.
