LETTER FROM THE HONORARY PRESIDENT

Dear Colleagues,

I cordially invite you to participate in the 2nd International Symposium on MR-guided Focused Ultrasound, scheduled for October 17 -20, 2010 in Chantilly near Washington, DC.

It is an honor to serve as President for this vitally important meeting, which is devoted exclusively to current and future applications of one of today’s most exciting medical innovations, MR-guided focused ultrasound.

Like the 1st international symposium in 2008, this meeting promises to be a landmark event for scientists, clinicians and others involved in the research and development of patient treatments using this emerging, widely-applicable technology.

A key aim of the 2010 symposium is to spotlight viable new uses of MR-guided focused ultrasound. Presentations and poster sessions will cover the latest and most significant translational and clinical research, including facet rhizotomy for back and neck pain, functional neurosurgical treatments for neuropathic pain and the emergence of MR-guided focused ultrasound as a platform for targeted drug delivery.

Another symposium goal is to foster and expand the collaboration between clinicians and scientists, a vital aspect of moving a nascent technology like focused ultrasound from laboratory to patient bedside. Highly collegial, the symposium will provide ample opportunity for participants to interact, identify areas of common interest and plan shared pursuits.

As everyone involved with MR-guided focused ultrasound knows, our field is expanding and evolving rapidly. Attending the 2nd International Symposium on MR-guided Focused Ultrasound is an excellent way to keep abreast of major developments and to foster the conversations and collaborations that will pave the way for further progress.
