Focused Ultrasound Community Encouraged to Join Cancer Moonshot
During his 2016 State of the Union address, President Barack Obama announced the establishment of a new Cancer Moonshot to accelerate cancer research. The initiative—led by Vice President Joe Biden—aims to make more therapies available to patients as quickly as possible, in part by breaking down silos that are impediments to progress in cancer research in order to promote collaboration and data sharing.
"This is your chance to be part of an army that will take cancer on. Everyone has a role to play.... What will make the Moonshot successful is your belief that it can be done." -Greg Simon
Focused Ultrasound Foundation and the Cancer Moonshot
We believe that focused ultrasound has the potential to transform treatment and improve outcomes for patients with cancer. We are contributing to the Cancer Moonshot in many ways, accelerating cancer research with this promising technology and bringing it to patients as quickly as possible. Foundation Chairman Dr. Neal Kassell was chosen by the Vice President to serve on the Cancer Moonshot Blue Ribbon Panel.
Focused Ultrasound for Cancer
Focused ultrasound has the potential to improve quality and longevity of life and decrease the cost of care for patients with cancer. The technology could enhance or replace the four pillars of traditional cancer treatment: surgery, radiation therapy, chemotherapy, and immunotherapy.
