Emerging Mechanisms Unlock Further Potential


Focused ultrasound has been used for years to heat and destroy tissue, but researchers have identified many new ways to utilize the technology to create a variety of effects within the body. As a platform technology, focused ultrasound’s 18 biomechanisms can be used alone or in combination, and their effects can vary based on the nature of the tissue (e.g., muscle, tumor or bone). 

The multitude of mechanisms - including tissue destruction, drug delivery, neuromodulation, immunomodulation and stem cell targeting - creates the possibility of treating a wide variety of disorders.
