October is Breast Cancer Awareness month, and this is a time for us to reflect and pay extra attention to this pervasive disease.
Thanks to improving methods for diagnosis and increased public awareness, earlier detection has increased. However, because thousands still suffer from late stage and metastatic disease, we continue to develop novel strategies to improve the treatment of patients with breast cancer. We strive to decrease the need for invasive surgical procedures, minimize the side effects from radiation therapy, improve the targeted delivery of chemotherapies to avoid systemic toxicity, and harness the power of our own immune system.
On Friday, October 22, we welcomed four experts who are leading efforts to improve the treatment of patients with breast cancer.
