As follow-up to the May 2014 Reimbursement Summit on bone pain and uterine fibroids, the Foundation organized stakeholder meetings in January to strategize essential tremor insurance reimbursement and further refine the plan for uterine fibroids.
Bringing more than 25 industry leaders, clinicians, scientists, and regulatory experts together to advance these comprehensive approaches is one way that we fulfill our mission toward widespread access to focused ultrasound treatment.
The essential tremor group developed an action plan for CPT coding, the FDA submission process, publication of endpoint data, society support, utilization, and marketing.
The uterine fibroid group discussed evidence needs, such as revising the RELIEF registry to include gathering comparative effectiveness data, increasing physician and patient utilization, garnering specialty society support, and building grass-roots advocacy. They also discussed ways to leverage the comprehensive study comparing various fibroid treatments supported by a government initiative aimed to integrate patient preferences and outcomes into medical practice — the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute.
