On July 23, Profound Medical hosted its first PRO-Talk Live event in Chicago. The educational event offered a space for physicians using the company’s TULSA-PRO device – as well as those interested in learning more about MRI-guided therapeutic ultrasound for prostate disease and other ablative modalities – to meet and discuss the platform. Attendees also heard from a panel of experts, innovators, and guest speakers regarding cancer research and the ablation modality space. In all, more than 40 urologists and radiologists attended the meeting.
TULSA-PRO uses real-time MRI guidance and temperature feedback control combined with radiation- and incision-free ultrasound to allow physicians to predictably ablate whole-gland or partial prostate tissue. In 2019, the system was the first transurethral ultrasound ablation device approved by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for the ablation of prostate tissue. It is also cleared for use in Europe and Asia.
There are now more than 100 physicians in the world offering the treatment to their patients, and an estimated 2,000 patients have been treated worldwide.
“Physician-only events such as PRO-Talk Live are critical for our patients and for the evolution of TULSA-PRO,” said Ben Berg, Profound’s Sales Training and Medical Education Associate Manager. “Convening physicians who perform the procedure with those who are interested in the technology is essential, and users were encouraged to talk through tips, tricks, and best practices. The event was also critical for us as a company to learn how we can better support and evolve the technology to meet the needs of our customers and patients.”
Continuing the Conversation
Profound has also launched a PRO-Talk webinar series. The first episode featured Xiaosong Meng, MD, PhD, Assistant Professor of Urology at UT Southwestern Medical Center. The second webinar featured Joseph Busch, MD, who treats patients using the TULSA-PRO device in Alpharetta, Georgia.
