Executives from NaviFUS, a new focused ultrasound company in Taiwan, visited the Foundation to share information on the status of their company and their plans to begin clinical trials. Company Chairman, Chiu S. Lin, PhD, and CEO, Ming-Che Wang, PhD, were joined by Neurosurgeon Kuo-Chen Wei, MD, and Professor Hao-Li Liu for meetings at the Foundation and the University of Virginia.
NaviFUS has designed and built a “neuronavigation guided” stand alone focused ultrasound system to temporarily and non-invasively open the blood-brain barrier and rapidly deliver drugs to a focal spot in the brain.
Using innovative software and hardware design, the system allows personalized treatment planning and a range in targeting width and depth. The company is testing the device and hopes to begin clinical trials in patients with malignant brain tumors this year in the US and Taiwan.
