The 49th Annual Meeting of the International Skeletal Society (ISS) was held in Barcelona from October 23–28, 2022. ISS is an interdisciplinary and international group of radiologists, pathologists, surgeons, and radiation oncologists who are scientific and clinical experts in musculoskeletal medicine.

Matthew Bucknor, MD, an associate professor of musculoskeletal radiology in the Department of Radiology & Biomedical Imaging at the University of California, San Francisco, presented the first focused ultrasound content at this meeting with his talk titled “MR-Guided Focused Ultrasound: Ablation of Bone and Soft Tissue Tumors.”

“This meeting is an extraordinary gathering of practicing physicians focused not only on diagnostic excellence in musculoskeletal disease, but also on the downstream treatment implications of the diagnoses we make,” said Dr. Bucknor. “The group was excited to learn about focused ultrasound as an innovative way to treat focal musculoskeletal disease.”

Dr. Bucknor also noted that the 600 to 700 attendees that join this meeting every year do so for its engaging presentations and discussions of case studies, scientific papers, and reviews on all aspects of musculoskeletal disorders, including imaging, pathology, and clinical management.
