With the theme of “Confronting Addiction from Prevention to Recovery,” APA 2024 was held May 4–8 in New York City. More than 13,000 international physicians and allied health attendees attended the conference, which is the largest psychiatric meeting held annually. It features over 500 educational sessions and courses, four plenary lectures, more than 1,000 posters, and opportunities for networking and learning about the latest scientific advances.
On Saturday, May 4, the use of focused ultrasound neuromodulation for the treatment of substance use disorders was included in a 90-minute session titled, “Neuromodulation Treatments for Substance Use Disorders (SUDs): Target Engagement, Safety, and Feasibility.” The session highlighted recent advances in the use of noninvasive neuromodulation approaches targeting the nucleus accumbens/ventral capsule, anterior insula, and dorsomedial prefrontal cortex. Ali Rezai, MD, the executive chair and vice president of neuroscience, associate dean, and John D. Rockefeller IV tenured professor in neuroscience at West Virginia University (WVU) School of Medicine, presented during this session.

APA 2025 will be held in Los Angeles May 17–21. Although regular abstract submission is now closed, submissions for new research posters will be open November 12, 2024 through January 9, 2025.
