The Foundation recently lost a dedicated Council member and longtime friend Mary Lou Seilheimer, who passed away at home on July 26.
Mrs. Seilheimer was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, gardener, philanthropist, and community leader. She was active in many garden clubs and served as chairman of the Garden Club of Virginia’s Restoration Committee, overseeing the stewardship of forty-seven of Virginia’s most historic gardens. She received the Garden Club of America’s Zone Historic Preservation Award and the Garden Club of Virginia’s Massey Medal, its highest honor. Her passion for cultivation was witnessed at her home, the historic Mount Sharon, where her dedication and hard work transformed the property into one of Virginia’s most acclaimed private gardens.
She was also a committed supporter of youth in the community, serving as president of the Boys and Girls Club of Orange and as a member of the board of directors of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Virginia. The Boys & Girls Clubs of America honored Mary Lou with its highest distinction, the National Medallion, for her “exceptionally devoted and exemplary service.”
Mrs. Seilheimer and her husband, Charlie, both joined the Foundation’s Council in 2009 and have been strong advocates for focused ultrasound technology and supporters of the Foundation’s mission for many years.
“Mary Lou was a dear friend whose kindness and generosity touched everyone fortunate enough to know her,” said Foundation Chairman Neal F. Kassell, MD. “She believed deeply in the promise of focused ultrasound, and she and Charlie became steadfast supporters of our mission to improve patients’ lives. Her quiet strength enriched our Council and our Foundation in countless ways. She will be deeply missed and fondly remembered.”
