The focused ultrasound neurosurgery group at Ohio State University used the Foundation’s Kranion® system to create a new metric that predicts temperature rise during brain treatments. The study, which measured the relationship between skull parameters and treatment efficiency, used Kranion® to evaluate data from 28 patients. Combining the energy loss from incident angles with skull thickness produced a new penetration metric called the “beam index.” The Kranion® software was able to accurately estimate skull thickness and create corresponding treatment parameters.
