In July, the Foundation team continued its internal giving campaign to support those impacted by our current global health crisis.
In June, the team made a unified effort to support the central Virginia—based Blue Ridge Area Food Bank. This month, we continued to aid those experiencing food insecurities during this challenging time by giving to No Kid Hungry, a national campaign with a belief that no child should go hungry. It was launched in 2010 by Share Our Strength, a nonprofit working to fight hunger and poverty in the US.
According to No Kid Hungry, there are approximately 15 million children in the US living in poverty, and many rely on schools to meet their daily needs. This figure is compounded by the current pandemic that has closed many schools and added an even greater economic burden on many families. No Kid Hungry estimates that 1 in 4 US children could face hunger this year because of the crisis.
The Foundation is proud to share that we exceeded our $10,000 giving campaign in July in support of No Kid Hungry.
According to their website, No Kid Hungry can provide up to 10 meals for each $1 donated, meaning the Foundation’s efforts could equal up to 100,000 meals for those in need.
The Foundation team plans to continue this giving campaign in August in support of the Cedars Healthcare Center, a skilled nursing facility located adjacent to the Foundation’s offices that has been especially impacted by the COVID-19 crisis.
