Focused Ultrasound Foundation Selected as an ARPANET-H Spoke Organization

Key Points

  • The Foundation is proud to be a part of ARPANET-H, a nationwide health innovation network that connects people, innovators, and institutions.
  • Our hub aims to diversify clinical trials and instill patient-centric approaches to improve health outcomes for Americans.

The Foundation was recently named as a “spoke” in the ARPANET-H Customer Experience Hub.

In September 2023, the Advanced Research Projects Agency for Health (ARPA-H) launched ARPANET-H, a nationwide health innovation network that connects people, innovators, and institutions. It is made up of three regional hubs — Customer Experience, Stakeholder and Operations, and Investor Catalyst – and an extensive network of organizations that serve as spokes. These spokes harness a broad range of expertise and are dynamic based on current ARPA-H programs.

At the time of ARPANET-H’s launch, ARPA-H Director, Renee Wegrzyn, PhD, said: “By using a hub-and-spoke model, we’re creating efficiencies that we could not otherwise achieve, including reaching patients, providers, and other stakeholders quickly. With a nod to the history of DARPA’s original ARPANET that eventually became the internet, we are establishing the foundation for an ambitious 50 state network to support health innovation across the entire Nation.”

The Foundation’s hub – the Customer Experience hub – is based in Dallas, Texas, and will target the prevention, treatment, and diagnosis of patients by diversifying clinical trials, reaching representative patient populations, and instilling patient-centric approaches to improve health outcomes for all Americans. The Foundation is one of nearly 400 spokes identified for this hub. ARPA-H encourages small businesses, academic institutions, clinics, nonprofit organizations, and community-based organizations to consider joining the hub.

The Investor Catalyst hub is also seeking to identify spoke organizations. Learn More

“The Foundation is aligned with the mission of ARPA-H, and serving as a spoke will allow us to engage more with the agency and with other spokes as we all work to advance critical healthcare innovations,” said Jessica Foley, PhD, the Foundation’s chief scientific officer and managing director of government affairs. “The Foundation has strong relationships and partnerships with a wide range of stakeholders, enabling it to reach a broad and diverse group of customers, such as patients, clinicians, hospitals, and payers, which are critical to widespread and equitable access for focused ultrasound treatments.”
