This year’s Society of Interventional Radiology’s (SIR) Annual Scientific Meeting in Atlanta included two focused ultrasound presentations from researchers at the University of California San Francisco on predicting treatment success and near field temperature monitoring when treating uterine fibroids.
The T2 Factor: Utility of T2 signal change in predicting treatment success following MR guided focused ultrasound of symptomatic uterine fibroids by Hari Trivedi et al. from UCSF Department of Radiology looks at T2 signal change to determine which fibroids will respond most favorably to focused ultrasound ablation.
Map the Fat: Near Field Temperature Monitoring during MRgFUS Treatment of Uterine Fibroids by Maureen Kohi et al. from UCSF used T2 monitoring to prevent skin burns and adipose necrosis during focused ultrasound treatment for uterine fibroids.
