Anxiety & Depression Association of America (ADAA) 2026 Annual Conference

ADAA is an international nonprofit organization that provides education and research for the prevention, treatment, and cure of anxiety, depressive, obsessive-compulsive, and trauma-related disorders. Its 2026 annual conference was held April 9–11in Chicago, Illinois, with the theme “Innovations in Technology Driving Clinical Care and Research in Mood and Anxiety Disorders.” More than 1,200 professionals in mental health research and treatment attend this event each year.
Focused ultrasound was included in this meeting on Thursday, April 9, during Concurrent Sessions: Symposia and State-of-the-Art Clinician Sessions. A 90-minute symposium titled Low-Intensity Focused Ultrasound Neuromodulation for Anxiety and Depression: Towards Translational Targets and Human Evidence was chaired by Wynn Legon, DPhil, from the Fralin Biomedical Research Institute at Virginia Tech Carilion.
The symposium included three presentations followed by a discussant:

Society for Image-Guided Neurointerventions (SIGN) 6th Annual Conference

SIGN 2026 was held April 9-12, 2026, at the Peniel Retreat Center in Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe. About 70 scientific attendees (clinicians, scientists and engineers), industry partners, and 10 government representatives – including several secretaries as well as other officials – gathered for the event. It was organized in collaboration with the Zimbabwe Association of Neurological Surgeons and the Association of Radiologists and Radiation Oncologists of Zimbabwe.
The program highlighted blood-brain barrier (BBB) opening with focused ultrasound, molecular and flow MRI, functional neurosurgery, global collaboration, and more. One session was entirely dedicated to focused ultrasound. Jürgen Götz, PhD, (Queensland Brain Institute, Brisbane, Australia) and Pavlos Anastasiadis, PhD, (University of Maryland, Baltimore, Maryland, USA) presented during the focused ultrasound session, joining several other presenters from the University of Maryland.

“After my presentation, I received questions about immune response mitigation and measuring amyloid levels in neuromodulation clinical trials,” said Dr. Götz. “Our preclinical data, which revealed cognitive and functional improvements in the absence of amyloid clearance, would suggest that in the human trial cohort, amyloid may not be altered.”
“The audience was interested in treatment planning for multicycle treatment and asked about any plans to increase the treated volume given that glioblastoma is an infiltrative disease,” said Dr. Anastasiadis.
A Global Networking Roundtable was led by Dr. Alexandra Golby with the intent to strengthen international engagement and training in Africa and establish and strengthen collaborations between African researchers and clinicians and their international counterparts.

Society of Interventional Radiology (SIR) 2026

SIR 2026 was held April 11–16 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. With the theme of “Creating Communities, Transforming Care, nearly 5,000 interventional radiologists and their associated professional and industry colleagues attend this conference each year.
As in past years, Suzanne LeBlang, MD, the Foundation’s director of clinical relationships, attended the meeting. “It was exciting to learn about an organization called the Radiology Health Equity Coalition, which was launched by the American College of Radiology in 2021 to provide education, screening, advocacy, and policy change,” said Dr. LeBlang. “It’s jointly run by the American Board of Radiology, RSNA, the American Medical Association, and SIR. It will be important to include focused ultrasound in this organization.”
HistoSonics was well represented at SIR with 14 histotripsy presentations, covering mostly liver cancer but also tumors of the kidney and pancreas. The company also sponsored a corporate breakfast symposium with a presentation titled “Histotripsy in Practice: Real-World Experience, Evidence, and Future Frontiers.”
For Profound Medical, the maker of TULSA-PRO, investigators announced new results from two ongoing prostate clinical trials, the TULSA-PRO Ablation Clinical Trial (TACT), which now has 5 years of follow-up data, and the CAPTAIN Randomized Controlled Trial of MRI-Guided TULSA Versus Robotic Radical Prostatectomy, which now has 6-month outcomes data.

American Academy of Neurology (AAN) 2026 Annual Meeting

AAN held its annual meeting April 18–22, 2026. More than 15,000 attendees in the global neurology community convened in Chicago and online to take advantage of the conference’s multitude of educational, scientific, and networking opportunities.
Notably, investigators shared some of the soon-to-be published data that led to US Food and Drug Administration approval of staged, bilateral focused ultrasound ablation of the pallidothalamic tract (or “PTT”) for Parkinson’s disease. An article in Neurology Today also highlighted this presentation.

European Conference on Interventional Oncology (ECIO) 2026

ECIO 2026 was held April 26–30 in Basel, Switzerland, where more than 1,400 delegates from around the world enjoyed a multidisciplinary program covering all aspects of interventional oncology, the fourth pillar of cancer care. ECIO is put on by the Cardiovascular and Interventional Radiological Society of Europe.
The Foundation’s managing director and co-director of the Research and Education team, Chrit Moonen, PhD, attended ECIO. “The first presentation of results from the iFOCUS clinical trial was well received,” said Dr. Moonen. “The iFOCUS study also fits in with an increasing number of interventional oncology clinical trials that are combining interventional techniques and immunotherapies with promising initial results. ECIO continues as an important forum for combination therapies relevant to the Foundation’s Cancer Immunotherapy Program.”
ECIO’s first Thierry de Baère Lecture, “Interventional Oncology 2030: Challenges and Opportunities for the Next Generation,” was given by Professor Afshin Gangi from Strasbourg, France.”
HistoSonics had a presence at the conference, with a booth for demonstrating the Edison histotripsy device. The company also sponsored a satellite mini symposium where T. Wah and V. Lau presented “Histotripsy in Practice: Real-World Experience, Evidence, and Future Frontiers.”

Society of Biological Psychiatry (SOBP) 2026 Annual Meeting

SOBP’s Annual Meeting was held April 30–May 2, 2026 in New York City with the theme of “Building Better Brains: From Synapses to Societies.”
According to the meeting website, approximately 2,000 attendees learn about alternative and transformative frameworks for understanding psychiatric illnesses and the use of enhanced and newly emerging tools for experimental measurement and manipulation. Presenters share research techniques and experimental designs they applied to elucidate the biological pathways and markers associated with psychiatric symptoms and disorders.
A dedicated symposia called Quiet Waves with Deep Impact: Low Intensity Focused Ultrasound for Noninvasive Deep Brain Stimulation was chaired by Noah Philip, MD, professor of Psychiatry and Human Behavior at the Alpert Medical School of Brown University. The session included four presentations, which were given by Amanda Arulpragasam, PhD, Gregory Fonzo, PhD, Joline Fan, MD, MS, and Nadège Bault, PhD.
