Project Overview
My goal was to learn how to use social media as a tool to raise awareness about the Foundation’s mission. A major challenge was creating content, especially on platforms like TikTok, that was both educational and engaging. I worked to balance scientific accuracy with attention-grabbing trends to reach a broader audience effectively.

Results
I learned how to track and analyze social media metrics to improve engagement and guide content strategy. One project I completed was transforming the Foundation’s newsletter into a TikTok-style format by creating 45-second videos that summarized key highlights. By reading the summaries on camera, I helped create a more personal and relatable connection with viewers.

What new skills or knowledge did you gain during your internship?
I learned how to use social media management platforms that help keep content organized and consistent across platforms. I also gained a better understanding of broader strategies – like social listening and social monitoring – and how important those are for growing an engaged audience.

Has your internship affected your career plans?
This internship has influenced my career plans. As a media studies major, I knew I wanted to go into the marketing or media space, and the Foundation gave me hands-on experience that confirmed that. Being in the office every day helped me grow professionally, and I was able to apply what I’ve learned to create content I’m proud of and can use in my portfolio.

What is one tip that you would give 2026 summer interns?
I’d tell future interns to take the time to introduce yourself to as many people at the Foundation as you can. Everyone is incredibly knowledgeable and always willing to help you learn and grow professionally.
