Their projects ranged from technical research to advocacy and communications. The technical internships are generously funded by the Claude Moore Charitable Foundation. MEET THE INTERNS AND LEARN ABOUT THEIR PROJECTS >  Foundation News Freda Lewis-Hall, MD, Joins Foundation’s Council Dr. Lewis-Hall has spent 40+ years on the frontlines of healthcare as a clinician, researcher, and leader in the biopharmaceutical and life sciences industries. She was most recently a top executive at Pfizer, Inc. The Council provides strategic advice, assists with raising funds, and builds awareness. READ MORE >  John Grisham and Neal Kassell, MD, to Participate in Virtual Geschke Lecture Series Foundation Board member John Grisham and Chairman Neal F. Kassell, MD, will discuss focused ultrasound as part of the Geschke Lecture Series. The event will be moderated by Jane Metcalfe, founder and CEO of NEO.LIFE and Foundation Council member. The free online event is September 23 at 7:00 pm Eastern. She shared her early motivations for pursuing a career in science and her current work focused on innovative ways to treat cancer. LISTEN NOW >  Research News Glioblastoma Workshop White Paper Now Available In May, the Foundation convened a virtual workshop to discuss focused ultrasound for glioblastomas. More than 260 people, including 60 experts from 58 institutions around the world participated.   READ THE WHITE PAPER > WATCH WORKSHOP PRESENTATIONS > Research Awards Update: 15 Projects Initiated in the First Six Months of 2021 The Foundation’s Research Awards Program has launched or funded 15 new studies through the first half of the year. These projects include 10 preclinical laboratory studies and 5 clinical trials. Learn more about our funded projects and how to apply for a research award. READ MORE >  Recently Completed Foundation-Funded Research The Foundation funded three projects that have been completed in the first half of 2021. Topics include improved imaging for focused ultrasound brain treatments, treating low-grade tumors in dogs, and a preclinical pancreatic cancer model that responded to histotripsy. LEARN MORE >  Funding Available for Innovative Medical Devices to Address Nervous System Disorders The NIH Blueprint MedTech Program is an incubator for innovators developing groundbreaking medical devices. The program is offering funding for innovative early-stage technologies to treat or diagnose nervous system disorders.   Awards up to $1.5 million per year are available.   LEARN MORE AND APPLY > Nature Communications Selects Focused Ultrasound Research for Special Feature Focused ultrasound research on transcranial neuromodulation was featured on “From Brain to Behaviour,” which highlights the most exciting brain research published by Nature Communications. The National Institute of Biomedical Imaging and Bioengineering (NIBIB) funded this research. Another large comparative trial found a significantly higher salvage-treatment-free survival rate in HIFU patients compared to radical prostatectomy.
