  • Sonodynamic therapy (SDT) uses focused ultrasound to activate agents that accumulate in tumor cells and cause cell death.

Yutong Guo, PhD, Named 2022 Andrew J. Lockhart Postdoctoral Fellow
  • Dr. Yutong Guo completed her PhD at the Georgia Institute of Technology and will begin her postdoctoral fellowship at Stanford University.
  • She plans to study how focused ultrasound can be combined with CAR T cell therapy to treat aggressive brain tumors, such as glioblastoma.
  • The one-year fellowship was established in January 2021 by the Lockhart family in honor of their son.

Foundation and MITA Applaud Increased Medicare Reimbursement for HIFU Prostate Tissue Ablation
  • The US Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services recently ruled that hospitals in the US can be reimbursed $8,558 per US-guided HIFU procedure.
  • The reimbursement level applies only to Medicare patients and will go into effect January 1, 2023.
  • The Foundation and the Medical Imaging and Technology Alliance (MITA) publicly support the rule.
