Focused Ultrasound for Methamphetamine Addiction: New Clinical Trial Launched in Korea

This research will evaluate focused ultrasound neuromodulation to treat patients with psychostimulant use disorder who use methamphetamine alone.
The Foundation is funding this clinical trial, which is a unique opportunity to study the role of focused ultrasound in patients with a single drug addiction.

Foundation Holds Second Workshop on Focused Ultrasound for Pediatric Brain Tumors

The Foundation recently hosted a workshop on the use of focused ultrasound to treat diffuse intrinsic pontine gliomas (DIPG).
The presentations, discussions, and a roadmap for future research will be summarized in a white paper.

Focused Ultrasound Neuromodulation Clinical Trial: Target Engagement, Specificity Measured with Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) Leads

A clinical study conducted in Toronto enrolled participants with previously implanted DBS leads.
Researchers applied low-intensity focused ultrasound neuromodulation to the globus pallidus internus (GPi) region of the brain.

Investigator Profile: Christy Holland, PhD

Dr. Holland develops ultrasonic tools for the treatment of cardiovascular disease, including blood clots, stroke, deep vein thrombosis, and peripheral artery disease.
Her proudest achievement is in the number of – and quality of – students she has trained.

Focused Ultrasound Sensitizes Prostate Tumors to Cell Therapy

Researchers demonstrated that focused ultrasound plus an anti-cancer drug was effective in reducing tumor size in a model of prostate cancer.
This preclinical study was a collaboration between Vanderbilt University Medical Center and Rice University.
