The Foundation will host the 8th International Symposium on Focused Ultrasound this October in Bethesda, Maryland.
  • Join Us – In-person and virtual registration is now open for the event.
  • Submit an Abstract – The final deadline to submit abstracts is Wednesday, June 1.
  • Award Opportunities – Apply for a Young Investigator Award by June 1 or nominate a colleague for the Ferenc Jolesz Memorial Award by June 6.

Abstract Submission Deadline Extended
  • You now have until Wednesday, June 1, to submit abstracts for Symposium 2022.
  • We strongly urge you to submit preliminary as well as final results from preclinical laboratory studies and clinical trials.
  • Young Investigator Award applications are also due June 1 and can be completed during the abstract submission process.

Nominate a Colleague Now for Ferenc Jolesz Memorial Award
  • The award honors the late Ferenc Jolesz and recognizes an innovative spirit in a mid-career investigator conducting focused ultrasound research.
  • The recipient will receive a $5,000 cash award and up to $5,000 in travel expenses for Symposium attendance.
  • The award is supported by Insightec, and nominations will be accepted through Monday, June 6.

Focused Ultrasound Treatment for Essential Tremor Now Reimbursed in Germany
  • Previously, essential tremor patients in Germany who had focused ultrasound were only eligible for reimbursement if they were unsuitable for an alternate therapy – deep brain stimulation.
  • A recent ruling, thanks to a collaborative effort by physicians, has removed that barrier.

First Patient Treated in US Clinical Trial for Varicose Veins
  • The first US clinical trial of Theraclion’s SONOVEIN® platform for patients with varicose veins has begun in New Jersey.
  • The company plans to use data from this 20-patient study to start a larger trial and ultimately apply for FDA approval.
  • Sonovein is the only noninvasive treatment option for varicose veins, and it earned the CE Mark in 2019.
