Join Us – In-person and virtual registration is now open for the event. Submit an Abstract – The final deadline to submit abstracts is Wednesday, June 1. Award Opportunities – Apply for a Young Investigator Award by June 1 or nominate a colleague for the Ferenc Jolesz Memorial Award by June 6. The LabTAU team discussed their strategy, highlighted completed projects, and outlined their future vision. We strongly urge you to submit preliminary as well as final results from preclinical laboratory studies and clinical trials. Young Investigator Award applications are also due June 1 and can be completed during the abstract submission process. LEARN MORE AND SUBMIT >  Nominate a Colleague Now for Ferenc Jolesz Memorial Award The award honors the late Ferenc Jolesz and recognizes an innovative spirit in a mid-career investigator conducting focused ultrasound research. The recipient will receive a $5,000 cash award and up to $5,000 in travel expenses for Symposium attendance. Patient News Toronto Hospital Celebrates 10 Years of Focused Ultrasound Treatments Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre has been providing focused ultrasound care to patients for a decade. The site is pioneering the use of MR-guided focused ultrasound to treat a range of brain conditions. The Foundation has supported Sunnybrook clinical trials and designated it a focused ultrasound Center of Excellence. READ MORE >  Focused Ultrasound Treatment for Essential Tremor Now Reimbursed in Germany Previously, essential tremor patients in Germany who had focused ultrasound were only eligible for reimbursement if they were unsuitable for an alternate therapy – deep brain stimulation. A recent ruling, thanks to a collaborative effort by physicians, has removed that barrier. READ THE BLOG POST >  More Patient News Henry Ford Health Can Target and Treat Prostate Cancer Through Robotic Technology [video] | Fox 2 Detroit A Revolutionary New Prostate Treatment is Being Rolled Out Across the UK | Edinburgh News Research News First Patient Treated in US Clinical Trial for Varicose Veins The first US clinical trial of Theraclion’s SONOVEIN® platform for patients with varicose veins has begun in New Jersey. The company plans to use data from this 20-patient study to start a larger trial and ultimately apply for FDA approval. Sonovein is the only noninvasive treatment option for varicose veins, and it earned the CE Mark in 2019. Widespread use of these guidelines will assist in moving the field forward more quickly. The recommendations are divided into clinical and preclinical study sections. READ MORE >  Literature Review: Focused Ultrasound Immunotherapy for Brain Tumors Researchers conducted a comprehensive literature review of studies using focused ultrasound to modulate anti-tumor immunity in the central nervous system. Four bioeffects induce immune effects, improve immunotherapy trafficking, or turn "cold" tumors "hot." When combined with immunotherapy, focused ultrasound can promote robust responses in brain tumors. A special focused ultrasound symposium included research on immunotherapy, imaging, drug delivery, hyperthermia, pancreatic therapy, prostate cancer, and canine tumors. Histosonics’ EdisonTM is now being used in clinical trials in the US and Europe to treat liver tumors.
