Bilateral Focused Ultrasound is Effective for Relieving Movement Disorder Symptoms
  • A Swiss research team published trial data using bilateral pallidothalamic tractotomy to treat Parkinson’s symptoms.
  • Two of the ten patients were treated on both sides of the brain in one session.
  • Twelve months after treatment, patients reported measurable symptom relief.

Insightec Announces Regulatory Approval, Partnership in Brazil 
  • The Brazilian Health Regulatory Agency, ANVISA, has approved the Exablate Neuro device to treat essential tremor, tremor-dominant Parkinson's disease, and neuropathic pain. 
  • Insightec is working with Strattner, a leading equipment distributor, to help advance adoption of focused ultrasound in the Brazilian market.

Profound Medical’s Sonalleve Device Highlighted by FDA 
  • Approved to treat osteoid osteomas, the Sonalleve device was listed among novel devices authorized by the FDA in 2020. 
  • This was the first focused ultrasound approval directly impacting pediatric patients and the sixth approval in the US.
