Focused Ultrasound for Pediatric Brain Cancer: Early Clinical Trial Results

For the first time in pediatric patients, focused ultrasound was found to safely and repeatedly open the blood–brain barrier without sedation.
The clinical trial showed strong feasibility and tolerability, and clinical improvement was observed in two of three participants.

Foundation Names Washington University in St. Louis a Focused Ultrasound Center of Excellence

WashU has built a robust interdisciplinary network of researchers and clinicians to advance focused ultrasound.
The team has secured more than $40 million in external funding and launched clinical trials for patients with brain tumors, chronic pain, PTSD, depression, and fibromyalgia.

Insightec Announces New Company, Lotus Neuro

The new company will advance targeted drug delivery in the brain with low-frequency focused ultrasound for blood-brain barrier opening.
Arjun “JJ” Desai, MD, will move from being chief strategic innovation officer at Insightec to lead Lotus Neuro.

Alec J. Batts, PhD, Named Andrew J. Lockhart Postdoctoral Fellow

Dr. Batts’ research combines gene and cell therapies with focused ultrasound devices to transform cancer treatment.
The fellowship was established through the generosity of Terry and Gene Lockhart in honor of their son, Andrew.

Focused Ultrasound for Aortic Valve Stenosis: French Device Earns CE Mark

Cardiawave SA announced that its Valvosoft device has been granted authorization in Europe to address severe symptomatic aortic stenosis.
The ruling was based on clinical results from 100 participants treated across 12 European centers.
