| 2026 State of the Field Report Now Available |
|
The Foundation recently released the latest State of the Field Report, which documents the extraordinary progress in the field of focused ultrasound over the past year (2025). Highlights include new regulatory approvals, a record amount invested in the field, and an overview of commercial treatment sites worldwide.
The State of the Field data are available in two formats:
The interactive platform features in-depth statistics on the field of focused ultrasound that are updated regularly throughout the year. This platform enables a richer, more flexible experience where users can drill down into the data and explore by interest, including indications, sites, approvals, coverage, manufacturers, and more.
The PDF report is released once a year and provides a point-in-time snapshot of the field with historical context and long-term trend analysis.
We encourage you to read on for key highlights from this year’s report.

| Focused Ultrasound in 2025: By the Numbers |
|
|
|
In 2025, more than 74,800 patients were treated using nearly 2,000 commercial devices installed worldwide. Of those, 226 devices were installed in the past year. There were 19 new unique regulatory authorizations, bringing the total to 451 worldwide. Across the industry, both investments and the number of companies saw significant growth.

In 2025, nearly 75,000 patients were treated with focused ultrasound, bringing the cumulative total to 1,093,642. Women's health indications, such as uterine fibroids and adenomyosis, account for the largest share of focused ultrasound procedures performed to date. Urological indications, including prostate tumors, BPH, and kidney tumors, make up the second-largest treatment area.
Neurological applications follow closely behind. To date, there have been 27,563 focused ultrasound treatments for essential tremor, making up 81% of all neurological treatments. Learn more.

Before a focused ultrasound procedure can be introduced into clinical practice, the device must first receive authorization from the appropriate governing body. Last year, there were 19 new regulatory authorizations for focused ultrasound worldwide granted by 8 different bodies. These decisions authorized the commercial use of devices from six focused ultrasound companies. In total, the field has amassed 451 authorizations from 45 regulatory agencies. Learn more.

As insurance coverage expands, financial barriers are reduced for patients, providers gain a sustainable pathway for offering treatment, and access to care increases. As of the end of 2025, 18 countries offer some level of reimbursement for 19 indications worldwide and 8 in the US. Meanwhile, essential tremor, tremor-dominant Parkinson’s disease, prostate tumors, and bone metastases lead the list of lives covered in the US. Learn more.

Last year, 25 focused ultrasound companies raised approximately $628 million, making it one of the strongest years on record for the sector. Notably, about half of the 2025 transactions occurred at the earliest stages of company formation and growth, with 13 financings classified as Series A or earlier. Cumulatively, more than $3.5 billion has been invested in the field. Also, despite concerns surrounding federal research funding and widely publicized efforts to reduce government spending, funding for focused ultrasound research increased by approximately $10 million in 2025.
