Project
Advocacy to Expand Equitable Access to Focused Ultrasound Treatment in Women’s Health

Project Overview
My internship centered on advocacy, with the goal of informing people about the disparities in women’s health. Also, I informed them of ways there can be a change in women’s health and tried to convince them to start making changes and discoveries in women’s health.

Project Outcomes
I learned that there are many disparities in women’s health. I also learned about how focused ultrasound is used to treat some women’s health conditions, including uterine fibroids and some other indications that are still in the clinical trial stage like endometriosis, polycystic ovary syndrome, and more.

Describe your experience as an intern.
The experience was great, and it was very informational. I learned a lot about what focused ultrasound is and what it can do.

Has your internship affected your career plans? If so, how?
The internship made me want to fight harder and advocate for women’s health. I tend to think negatively and sometimes want to give up because everything seems so hard, but it gave me motivation to keep doing what I want to do.

What is one tip that you would give 2022 summer interns?
Make connections; it is not always about what you know, but who you know.

We thank the Economic Club of Washington, DC’s summer internship program for connecting us with Samia this summer.
