Communications Internship
Why were you initially interested in working with the Focused Ultrasound Foundation?
After graduating from a Master’s program with a concentration in marketing, I was eager to put my degree to use. The Focused Ultrasound Foundation presented a unique opportunity for me to work in a small team, be a self-starter, and apply my marketing skills to a new industry.
Share some thoughts on your experience as an intern at the Foundation.
I worked in the communications department, which allowed me to observe many different marketing roles coming together at once. I primarily assisted the External Relations Manager, Wes Myhre, by helping to grow the Foundation’s social media presence. This role included coordinating with a marketing consulting company to conduct a social media audit, running the Foundation’s Instagram account, and managing the Foundation’s stakeholder contacts.
I would like to thank my mentor, Wes Myhre, for welcoming me into the Foundation community and helping me make the most out of this internship.
What was the most important learning point of your internship experience?
Coming from a background in art and art history, it was a great learning experience to apply my marketing skills to an industry with which I was less familiar. I also learned a lot about remote and virtual working, which will be helpful in the future.
How will your accomplishments impact the field of focused ultrasound?
I hope that by growing our presence in the media, the Focused Ultrasound Foundation can claim a spot at the top of the conversation around focused ultrasound technology.
Has your internship affected your career plans? If so, how?
The opportunity to work on the social media audit has given me confidence that I would like to continue with brand strategy in my future career.
What is one tip that you would give 2021 summer interns?
Don’t be afraid to come up with your own projects. I often found that if I suggested an idea that I was interested in learning about, my team was happy to help me achieve my goals.
