MR-Guided Focused Ultrasound Central Lateral Thalamotomy for Trigeminal Neuralgia. Single Center Experience

Research Roundup 2019 smProfessor Daniel Jeanmonod’s neurosurgery group in Switzerland recently published their center’s experience using focused ultrasound thalamotomy as a treatment for facial pain caused by trigeminal neuralgia. The group bilaterally treated eight patients who were unresponsive to antiepileptic and antidepressant drugs. This group of patients experienced a 51% reduction in pain relief after three months that improved to 78% at the longest follow-up period. The study provides initial safety and efficacy data for this novel indication.
