RSNA 2019The 105th Scientific Assembly and Annual Meeting of the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) took place December 1-6 in Chicago. The conference’s 50,000 attendees included interventional radiologists, diagnostic radiologists, researchers, and allied professionals who attended more than 400 sessions to gain hands-on experience with cutting-edge technology and the latest advances in the field.

Along with “Value MR Imaging-Paradigm Shift from Generic to Targeted–Why and How,” a special interest session led by Clare Tempany-Afdhal, MB, BAO, BCh, the program featured 26 focused ultrasound abstracts (12 more than last year) covering brain, central nervous system, bone, cancer, women’s health, prostate, and thyroid applications.

“Our value-MR imaging-Paradigm shift from generic to targeted-why and How session garnered much interest and lively discussion,” said Dr. Tempany, Ferenc Jolesz, MD, Professor of Radiology at Harvard Medical School and Vice Chair of Research in the Department of Radiology at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. She spoke on MR guided FUS is there value in disruption. “Focused ultrasound is being very well received this year with many applications reaching maturity and now clearly demonstrable valuable additions to patient care. Perhaps even more exciting, there were multiple new applications at this year’s meeting, such as Alzheimer’s disease, pancreatic cancer and thyroid nodules.”
