Jin-woo Chang, MD, PhD, the current President of KTSU, has performed pioneering neurosurgical work by using focused ultrasound to treat essential tremor, Parkinson’s disease, OCD, and–most recently—severe depression.
Foundation intern Chanzhu Jin, presented one of the 10 abstracts based on his 2015 summer project. In “Contribution of cooling phase to the thermal dose control in the pig brain during MRgFUS sonication,” he and co-investigators created a closed-loop system to control sonication output, generate desired temperature, and verify the location and size of focused ultrasound lesions. They plan to compare delivered thermal dose with post-treatment histopathology.
