For the second consecutive year, focused ultrasound was featured as part of the Academy for Radiology & Biomedical Imaging Research's Annual Medical Imaging Technology Showcase in Washington, DC.

Foley Hill 1 smThe event is hosted by the Academy’s Coalition for Imaging & Bioengineering Research (CIBR) to facilitate the interaction of policymakers with academic researchers, industry partners, imaging societies, foundations, and patients to demonstrate the value of medical imaging and bioengineering technology in improving patient outcomes. According to the Academy, this year’s attendees included Congressional staff, NIH staff from various Institutes and Centers, government agency representatives, and patient advocates.

Because the event took place during Parkinson’s Awareness Month, the Foundation’s booth highlighted the important focused ultrasound research for this debilitating disease. The Foundation’s Chief Scientific Officer, Jessica Foley, PhD, was joined by two clinicians working in focused ultrasound from the University of Maryland: Paul Fishman, MD, PhD, Professor of Neurology, and Dheeraj Gandhi, MBBS, Professor of Diagnostic Radiology and Nuclear Medicine.

“This event was a great opportunity to raise awareness among policymakers of image-guided focused ultrasound as an innovative therapy with the potential to transform the treatment of many serious medical disorders, including Parkinson’s disease,” says Dr. Foley.
