The American Society for Stereotactic and Function Neurosurgery (ASSFN) recently published a new position statement on the use of focused ultrasound for the management of patients with essential tremor.

The purpose of the position statement is “to provide an evidence-based best practices summary to guide health care providers in the use of MR-guided Focused Ultrasound (MRgFUS) in the management of essential tremor and to establish expert consensus opinion and areas requiring additional investigation.” The document lists indications, contraindications, and the evidence supporting each recommendation.

Mike Broad, PhD, the Foundation’s Director of Global Relations said “this type of position statement from a professional medical society like ASSFN can go a long way toward achieving widespread adoption and reimbursement of medical procedures.”
