Foundation Chairman Neal F. Kassell, MD, and Board member and best-selling author John Grisham were recently interviewed (via Zoom) by businessman, philanthropist, and Bloomberg TV host David M. Rubenstein to help raise awareness of focused ultrasound technology.

Known for interviewing influential figures to discuss their experiences and explore their paths to success, Mr. Rubenstein hosts "The David Rubenstein Show: Peer to Peer Conversations," which airs on Bloomberg TV and PBS stations nationwide. Interviews by Mr. Rubenstein have ranged from past presidents to billionaire business leaders and include Jeff Bezos, Bill Gates, Bill Clinton, George W. Bush, Warren Buffett, Donald Trump, Oprah Winfrey, Colin Powell, and Anthony Fauci.

“We were thrilled that David Rubenstein was interested in learning more about focused ultrasound and that he sees the importance of helping to spread the word about this highly disruptive technology,” said Dr. Kassell. “The result is a fascinating 22-minute discussion that we hope will advance awareness of the field and move us closer to widespread adoption of focused ultrasound.”

Said John Grisham, “I’m always eager to talk about focused ultrasound, but as one former lawyer to another, I truly enjoyed this conversation with David. We encourage everyone to share the interview widely and help us use important conversations like this one to spur new conversations about the technology.”

The conversation featured the history and purpose of the Foundation, how focused ultrasound works in the body, approved indications, and even how John Grisham got involved, why he wrote The Tumor, and updates on his current projects.

Mr. Rubenstein is a Co-Founder and Co-Executive Chairman of The Carlyle Group, one of the world’s largest and most successful private investment firms. He is Chairman of the Boards of Trustees of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts and the Council on Foreign Relations; a Fellow of the Harvard Corporation; a Regent of the Smithsonian Institution; a Trustee of the National Gallery of Art, Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, the Institute for Advanced Study, the Brookings Institution, and the World Economic Forum; a Director of the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences; and President of the Economic Club of Washington, among other board seats. He is also an original signer of The Giving Pledge; a recipient of the Carnegie Medal of Philanthropy and the Museum of Modern Art’s David Rockefeller Award; and the author of The American Story and How to Lead. A native of Baltimore, Maryland, Mr. Rubenstein is a 1970 magna cum laude graduate of Duke University and a 1973 graduate of the University of Chicago Law School.
