Board Update: Fred Moll Sells Auris to Johnson & Johnson, Appointed Chief Development Officer

Moll 250JJ MedLongtime Foundation Board Member, Frederic H. Moll, MD, recently sold his medical robotics company, Auris Health, Inc., to Johnson & Johnson (J&J), for $3.4 billion, with an additional $2.35 billion in payments contingent upon predetermined milestones. With the sale, Dr. Moll also accepted the position of Chief Development Officer of J&J Medical Devices Companies.

According to its press release, J&J plans to use Auris’s robotic platform technology, which was developed for diagnostic and therapeutic procedures in the lung, to combat lung cancer and expand its digital surgery portfolio across multiple surgical specialties. In an inspiring “employee spotlight” story, Johnson & Johnson tells how Dr. Moll became the world’s leading innovator and “Father” of robotic surgery: See “He Helped Pioneer Robotic Surgery. Now He Wants to Reinvent Lung Cancer Care.” Dr. Moll is also the founder of Intuitive Surgical, a highly successful manufacturer of robotic surgical systems.
