Darden Focused Ultrasound Fellowship

Published:

The Focused Ultrasound Foundation, an entrepreneurial, high-performance medical research, education, and patient advocacy organization headquartered in Charlottesville, Virginia, is offering fellowships to college graduates who have been admitted to the University of Virginia Darden School of Business through its Future Year Scholars Program (FYSP).

Darden Focused Ultrasound Fellows will work at the Foundation for one to three years to gain experience working for an entrepreneurial med tech foundation before matriculating at Darden. (The Foundation is an at-will employer as defined by the employment policies of the Commonwealth of Virginia. Fellows at the Foundation are free to end the employment relationship at any time, with or without notice or cause.)

Fellows would engage with the Darden community through this period prior to matriculating at Darden, including access to career services and the Darden alumni network. Fellows could continue to work at the Foundation while enrolled in the MBA program at Darden or during the summer between the first and second year.

Position Description

The focused ultrasound field is now transitioning from a primarily research environment (science) to commercialization and patient treatment (marketing and sales). To accelerate this transition, the Foundation created FUS Partners to serve as a galvanizing force in facilitating rapid success of the commercial stakeholder segment of the focused ultrasound ecosystem and, thus, speed the time from laboratory research to widespread utilization of the technology.

As part of the the Foundation team, fellows could have several responsibilities associated with FUS Partners and other Foundation initiatives, for example: due diligence, articulating the business case for focused ultrasound therapies and indications, research in strategic areas for the Foundation, or consulting projects. Other opportunities for fellows could include contributing to communications efforts for education and awareness across an array of media platforms and supporting the Foundation’s strategic collaboration initiatives with cofounding organizations, advocacy groups, and the medical technology industry.

About the Focused Ultrasound Foundation

On the leading edge of venture philanthropy and social entrepreneurship, the Foundation has demonstrated success in accelerating the development and adoption of focused ultrasound, a rapidly evolving, noninvasive therapeutic technology that could transform the treatment of many medical disorders. The Foundation is a tax-exempt organization that uses donor funding to bridge the gap between laboratory research and widespread patient treatment. The Foundation is well poised to diversify its donor base and leverage new funding sources to exponentially increase the impact of its life-changing mission.
