Abstract

The goal of our research project is to demonstrate the safety and the effecacy of Magnetic Resonance-guided Focused Ultrasound Surgery (MRgFUS) treatment on pain alleviation for the elderly patients with painful medial compartment of knee osteoarthritis which is suitable for surgical treatment. On single arm designed clinical trial, we will evaluate the incidence and the severity of adverse events by using the ExAblate 2100 system for MRgFUS treatment. We will also confirm the level of effectiveness by using pain rating scales and validated functional disability scales pretreatment and then at each time of follow-up. We hypothesize that MRgFUS treatment would contribute to a long-term pain relief and improvement of activities in daily life and could provide an attractive, less-invasive alternative to relieving musculoskeletal chronic pain.
