Thermal ablation of the nerves innervating sacroiliac joint is believed to provide promising outcomes for the patients with sacroiliac low back pain (15-30% of all low back patients). Currently used fluoroscopy-guided radiofrequency (RF) ablation is laborious and has experienced poor adoption. We hypothesize that ultrasound-guided portable FUS ablation approach can improve treatment of sacroiliac joint pain owing to its non-invasive nature and unique ability to create contiguous lesions of arbitrary shape. The goal of our project is to investigate the effects of and the feasibility of sacroiliac joint ablation using a portable focused ultrasound system guided by ultrasound imaging
