The dismal survival rate for patients with intracranial tumors combined with the need for a safer and more effective treatment modality that is non-invasive, deep-penetrating, and less prone to infection and damage to surrounding tissues makes sonodynamic therapy (SDT) an attractive area of research. Ultrasound therapy has been shown to induce apoptosis of tumor cells when used in conjunction with various sonosensitizers. The aim of this study is a proof-of-concept study of ultrasound-induced activation of fluorescein to cause cell death. The results from this study will be compared to results obtained using the drug 5ALA.
