Focused ultrasound has the potential to treat common endocrine conditions.

The technology is currently approved in Europe as a noninvasive alternative for the treatment of benign thyroid nodules as well as treating hyperparathyroidism by thermally destroying the gland in whole or in part.

In addition, preclinical studies are being conducted to assess the potential of focused ultrasound to noninvasively destroy abdominal fat in people with diabetes related to obesity.
