Welcome & Overview
Please join us for our 5th International Symposium and celebration of the 10th anniversary of the Focused Ultrasound Foundation.
The field has grown beyond our imagination in the decade since we created the Foundation. This great progress is the result of the hard work, innovation and risk taking of the many dedicated members of the community. With 18 different mechanisms of action, the technology is now being studied in more than 50 diseases. And new possibilities continue to be discovered.
Focused ultrasound is perfectly suited to the new value-based healthcare paradigm – offering improved outcomes while decreasing cost. Given the growth dynamics of the field, our Symposium has become an even more critical forum for not only sharing data and fostering collaboration, but also for identifying applications of maximum near-term value to patients, physicians and commercial interests that will help to drive widespread adoption and sustained societal benefit.
Our goal is to create an environment at the Symposium that is conducive to the virtuous circle of discovery, development and delivery. We encourage clinicians to attend and communicate their greatest patient medical needs and optimal equipment features to the scientific community and manufacturers; for the manufacturers to convey the capabilities of their systems to clinicians; and for the scientists to share newly identified mechanisms of action that can translate into treatments.
We look forward to seeing you in August 2016 for a productive and enjoyable meeting.
Neal F Kassell, MDFocused Ultrasound Foundation Chairman
I am proud to serve as Honorary President for the 5th International Symposium on Focused Ultrasound. As a neurosurgeon, I have direct experience with the potential of this technology to transform the treatment of many neurological and psychiatric disorders. And as a previous participant, I value how the Symposium provides a great opportunity to present research as well as to connect with scientists and clinicians from around the globe.
Researchers in the field continue to expand our understanding of the technology and its many mechanisms. We will have an exciting program that explores the multiple applications of focused ultrasound to treat a range of conditions across oncology, neurology, pain management, women's health, cardiovascular disease and more.
I look forward to gathering with you in Bethesda August 28 through September 1, 2016 to increase our knowledge, build new relationships, and share ideas that will fuel future advances.
