CURRENTLY FUNDED FELLOWS
The FUS Foundation has funded serveral medical fellows in order to raise up clinicians trained in the use of MRgFUS.
| Fellows Funded in 2008 |
Tim McClure, MD
Department of Urology, University of California Los Angeles
Dr. McClure recently changed from residency in urology to radiology at the University of California, Los Angeles. His transition stems in large part due to the promising possibilities that exist in minimally invasive image-guided treatments for a variety of malignancies, especially MRgFUS. During his transition year, Dr. McClure will work with clinicians and researchers in the development of MRgFUS at UCLA. This includes working with Dr. David Lu and Dr. Steve Raman for treatment of uterine fibroids as well as clinical trials investigating the use of MRgFUS in metastatic bone tumors, prostate cancer, and breast cancer. This fellowship will provide him the opportunity to develop a better understanding of MRgFUS and to be involved in the development of this new and exciting technology.
Zion Zibly, MD
Department of Neurosurgery, SHEBA Medical Center, Tel Hashomer, Israel
Currently working towards a Ph.D in the research of "APO E in Alzheimer's Disease" in the Department of Neuroscience, Tel Aviv University.
I'm currently a Neurosurgery resident in Sheba Medical Center Tel Hashomer Israel
(PGY5).
I have a 6-12 months period starting on January 08 which I would like to dedicate to
High Intensity Focused Ultrasound research. I have been exposed to HIFU technology
during my residency (by working with Dr. Harnof and Cohen).
The fields of research I would like to participate include:
- Neuro-Vascular
- Neuro-Oncology
- Drug delivery
- Brain response to HIFU
I hope I will have the chance to perform preclinical as well as clinical research. Since
I have two more years to complete my residency in Sheba, I will be able to complete
and continue any project that will start in the fellowship dedicated period.
In the future, once completing the residency program, I would like to do a Fellowship
program in the area of brain tumors and functional neurosurgery. In both fields I can
see the utility of HIFU technology and my personal involvement.
