DOROTHY BATTEN
Ms. Batten is a director of Landmark Communications,
Inc., a company which operates the Weather
Channel and other media and information businesses.
She is actively involved at the University
of Virginia at the Batten Institute and at
the Jefferson Scholars Foundation, and is
currently Co-chair of the University of Virginia
Arts Council. Ms. Batten is also a director
of the Amazon Conservation Association, a
non-profit organization dedicated to conserving
biodiversity, sustainable resource management
and rational land-use policy for the Amazon
Basin. She also dedicates her time to the
boards of the Peabody School in Charlottesville,
Virginia and Norfolk Academy. Ms. Batten received
her undergraduate degree in economics and
an MBA at the Darden Graduate School of Business
Administration.
S. MORRY BLUMENFELD, PhD
Dr. Blumenfeld is a Founding Partner of Meditech
Advisors Management, as well as one of the
General Partners in the private equity fund,
Ziegler Meditech Equity Partners, LP. Prior
to his work at Meditech, Dr. Blumenfeld had
been with General Electric for over thirty-four
years, serving GE in many capacities including
as the Managing Director of GE Medical Systems
in Israel. Dr. Blumenfeld holds five patents,
has served on an IEEE Standards Committee
and on a National Cancer Institute Advisory
Board. Dr, Blumenfeld currently serves on
the Ontario R&D Challenge Fund Imaging
Advisory Committee, Scientific Advisory Board
of the Ontario Consortium for Image-Guided
Therapy and Surgery, as well as on the Imaging
Research Centre for Cardiac Intervention (IRCCI)
at the University of Toronto. In addition,
he is on the boards Hebrew University, as
well as a number of medical device and technology
companies, including: Insightec, MAKO, Dune
Medical, Oridion and others. Dr. Blumenfeld
earned his Engineering Physics degree and
PhD in Molecular Physics from the University
of Toronto.
EUGENE V. FIFE
Mr. Fife is Chairman of Eclipsys Corporation,
a provider of integrated information software
for healthcare organizations. Mr. Fife has
also served as Chief Executive Officer of
Illuminis, Inc., a medical information systems
company, from September 1996 to October 2000,
Prior to Illuminis, Mr. Fife was a general
partner of Goldman Sachs & Co., where
he served as a member of the firm's Management
Committee and as Chairman of Goldman Sachs
International. During his 26 years with the
firm, Mr. Fife was responsible for managing
the growth of its West Coast and European
operations.
Mr. Fife has been a member of the University
of Virginia Medical Center's Operating Board
since 2002. He is also the founding principal
of Vawter Capital, LLC, a private investment
firm, a member of the Board of Directors of
Caterpillar, Inc., and the Director of the
Miller Center of Public Affairs at the University
of Virginia.
DAVID HELLER
Mr. Heller is the Chairman of Advisory Research
Inc, a Chicago-based investment advisor, managing
six billion dollars in total assets. In addition,
he is a past Governor of the Midwest Stock
Exchange and The Chicago Board Options Exchange.
Mr. Heller has also served as Chairman of
the Midwest Stock Exchange Service Corporation
as well as a board member of many companies
including: Lands' End, Lakeshore Bank Corporation,
Allied Products, Ambassador Apartments, Dain
Kalman Quail, and A. G. Becker Inc. Mr. Heller
is a past trustee for The Institute for Psychoanalysis,
Mount Sinai Hospital, Highland Park Hospital,
and Francis Parker School, where he also served
as President. Mr. Heller has an A.B. from
Harvard University and a M.B.A. from the University
of Chicago.
JOSEPH HOGAN
Mr. Hogan is the President and CEO of GE Healthcare,
a $15 billion segment of General Electric
Company. Prior to his current role, Mr. Hogan
was the President and CEO of GE Healthcare
Technologies, formerly known as GE Medical
Systems. Prior to his leadership positions
within GE's Medical businesses, Mr. Hogan
was the President and CEO of GE Fanuc Automation
North America Inc., a global supplier of industrial
controls systems. Mr. Hogan sits on the Boards
of the New York Academy of Medicine, the Multiple
Myeloma Research Foundation and the Centers
for Disease Control. Mr. Hogan has an MBA
from Robert Morris University and a B.S. degree
from Geneva College.
DANIEL P. JORDAN, PhD
Dr. Jordan, since 1985, has been head of the nonprofit Thomas Jefferson Foundation. This Foundation owns and operates Monticello, the home of Thomas Jefferson, and which organizes educational and scholarly programs worldwide.
Dr. Jordan received his Ph.D. in American history from the University of Virginia, where he was elected to Phi Beta Kappa and is now a "Scholar in Residence."
He was also on the history faculty of Virginia Commonwealth University where he was twice honored with "Teacher of the Year" awards. Dr. Jordan also has written three books and over seventy articles, essays, and reviews and has served on numerous state and national boards including planning groups for Independence Hall, the White House, and United States Capitol, chairmanship of the Advisory Board of the National Park Service, and the National Trust for Historic Preservation.
NEAL F. KASSELL, MD
Dr. Kassell is a Distinguished Professor of
Neurosurgery at the University of Virginia,
where he served as department co-chair until
June of 2006. Prior UVA, Dr. Kassell served
on the faculty at the University of Iowa.
Dr. Kassell is a founder of numerous private
ventures including Interax, Inc, the Virginia
Neurological Institute, Multimedia Medical
Systems, the Neuroclinical Trials Center,
Neuroventure Fund, and MedSpecialist. He currently
serves as a director of the Virginia National
Bank and the La Gesse Foundation, and is on
the editorial board of Neurosurgery and Stroke.
Dr. Kassell has been a recipient of the McKenzie
Memorial Award of the Canadian Neurosurgical
Society and the Grass Award of the Society
of Neurological Surgeons. He has published
over 450 scientific papers. Dr. Kassell received
hiss undergraduate and medical education at
the University of Pennsylvania.
KOBI VORTMAN, PhD
Dr. Vortman is a founder, president, and Chief
Executive Officer InSightec Ltd, which develops
MRI guided Focused Ultrasound Surgery systems.
Prior to InSightec, Dr. Vortman was the president
and CEO Diasonics Vingmend Ultrasound. Dr.
Vortman has also held research and development
management positions at Elscint Ultrasound
Imaging and RAFAEL (the Israeli Armament Development
Authority). Dr. Vortman earned physics and
mathematics degrees from Hebrew University,
Jerusalem and advanced degrees in electrical
engineering and electro-optics from the Technion,
the Israeli Institute of Technology.
