Focused Ultrasound Surgery Foundation

Promoting the advancement and adoption of MR guided focused ultrasound surgery.

Research Program

Overview

Our Research Awards Program provides funding for preclinical research projects and pilot clinical trials related to the application or use of MR-guided focused ultrasound technology that have high potential for rapidly leading to the development of clinical indications. As a general rule, this program is not intended to fund basic science or discovery-stage research projects. Nor is it intended to fund projects aimed at developing new technologies.

Primary Goals

The goals of the Research Award Program are as follows:

  • To develop new clinical applications for MR-guided focused ultrasound technology
  • To increase the awareness of MR-guided focused ultrasound technology and techniques
  • To facilitate regulatory approval of MR-guided focused ultrasound procedures
  • To facilitate reimbursement of focused ultrasound procedures

Awards

Awards will be approximately $100k for one year. Larger projects and longer funding periods may be considered for exceptional proposals. Recipients of research support will be expected to participate in a collaborative network of focused ultrasound research sites in order to share results and leverage complimentary infrastructure.

Applying

To apply for one of our research program awards, please follow the two-stage application process outlined in our application guidelines. Be sure to pay close attention to page and word limits, as submissions that fail to adhere to the application guidelines will be returned to the applicant for revision.

There are no application deadlines. Abstracts and full proposals are accepted on a rolling basis. An applicant must, however, be invited to submit a full proposal.

Proposal Review and Notification of Awards

Project abstracts are accepted and reviewed on a rolling basis. If an abstract is aligned with the research priorities of the Foundation and consistent with the goals of the Research Awards Program, the applicant will be invited to submit a full proposal.

Full proposals are also accepted and reviewed on a rolling basis. Upon receipt, proposals are forwarded to the Research Advisory Committee for scientific review. Funding decisions, which are based on reviewer scores, comments and recommendations, are typically made on a quarterly basis but may be accelerated if required.
